Teresita Johnson is wife to Randy, to whom she’s been married to for more than 30 years, and mom to four daughters; three adults and one teenager. Tere was born in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, grew up in Chicago, IL, and moved to Texas for college. Trained as a broadcast journalist, she worked in that field for nearly a decade before choosing to stay home to care for children. Later, she heard a calling to spread the Good News, returned to school and re-entered the workforce in full-time ministry.
Tere credits her humor and easy-going style to having worked in a wide variety of fields. She has worked in childcare, as a waitress, grocery store clerk, audio/visual technician, translator, and freelance writer, including 5+ years with the Texas Catholic Herald.
Most recently, Tere spent the past 10 years as an Associate Director in the Office of Family Life Ministry of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston where she developed and presented numerous trainings for marriage preparation ministry and oversaw the many direct service programs the archdiocese offered for couples preparing for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Tere is a FOCCUS Certified Facilitator trainer since 2011, and has trained 200+ facilitators. She is also a Certified PREPARE-ENRICH trainer and has likewise trained 200+ facilitators on that tool. Before Family Life Ministry, she worked as a Master Catechist in Human Sexuality and Moral Teachings of the Church with the Office of Evangelization & Catechesis for the archdiocese.
Her 20+ years of ministry volunteer work includes time in remarriage ministry, marriage prep ministry, youth ministry, adult faith formation, inter-generational faith formation, Children’s Church Ministry, RCIA, Lector, and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
As far as her other professional work experience, Tere worked for a decade in the broadcast news business starting as an intern at KIKK Radio, in Houston, where she worked in the news department. Her first TV job was with KHOU-TV Channel 11 (CBS) in Houston as an Assistant Assignments Editor and contributing writer then at KRIV-TV Fox 26, Houston where she worked as an Assignments Editor, Associate Producer, and Public Affairs and News Producer.
Tere says she doesn’t have any hobbies besides chor-e-ography (dancing with the vacuum cleaner & Swiffer mop) and related activities. She loves to take care of her numerous houseplants and her Maltipoo, Albie!
Tere’s formal training includes a Certificate in Marriage and Family Ministry from the Marriage and Family Institute, University of St. Thomas (CMF), a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies, from the University of St. Thomas, (MA PS), and a Bachelor of Arts, Radio/Television, Journalism minor, from the University of Houston.
