Here we go folks! Our good and loving God has seen to it that you and I have made it to the start of a new year. Thank you Jesus and Happy New Year! This year, instead of making useless resolutions involving weight loss, exercise, and reading more, I’ve decided to focus my resolutions on life-giving things that will improve my marriage and family life. Here’s my list: 1. Pray with my husband and daughter not just for them 2. Write love notes 3. Spend more time with Papa and Grandma 4. Play more games 5. Discover and hike a new park or nature area 6. Go on a picnic 7. Try a new recipe with my daughter 8. Give those closest to me the benefit of the doubt 9. Find a good book my husband and I can read together 10. Call my sisters and brother more It’s clear that I resolve to focus more on the people I love the most. That doesn’t mean setting goals about losing weight, getting healthy or reading more are bad things. So yes do all of those wonderful things too, but put a family spin on them. Eat healthier for weight loss as a family, exercise to get fit as a family, explore books and talk about them as a family. The importance of putting family first can’t be overstated. People are more important than things, the gadgets, on-line games, Netflix and sports we waste so much time on. This year, let's try to go on a diet and consume entertainment in moderation, and give family the lion's share of time. Time is precious my friends… give it to the people you love this year.
